Inverness

Inverness was established in 1889 and it's original name was Tompkinsville. Inverness got its name from Scotsman who gazed upon the blue waters of the Native American-named Lake Tsala Apopka and thought, "but it looks like Inverness, between the headlands and the lochs in Scotland. And the beautiful place deserves the name of Inverness." Inver is a Gaelic word meaning "mouth of the river".

Through the years, Inverness has become a haven for those seeking a simpler lifestyle, a friendly community to enjoy their retirement, or a safe home to raise their family. Many may be found enjoying the beautiful water front parks, jet skiing on the lakes, or fishing from the pier at Wallace Brooks Park. If bicycling is what you like, you can ride for miles on the scenic Withlachoochee State Trail that connects many of our parks, business district and other hamlets along the way.
